Two Sides of a Coin

Can't believe my vacation is coming to an end....come Tuesday and i'll be joining back work. Wonder how am i going to get thru this week!! Anyways, don't wanna crib all thruout this post. My vacation was awesome, met tons and tons of ppl and ate like anything. The two weddings went really well and what made them even more enjoyable was the slew of pre-wedding parties (mehendi, cocktail party, DJ night etc.). The pics are available on facebook. :)

So, now i am on a detox diet for a while....at least till i cleanse my system. Holi is on Monday, and i am afraid i can't play this time too! Last time i cudnt play coz i dint have anybody of my age group, and this yr too its not going to be any different. :( So i wont be celebrating the only festival which i once used to be a part of. Anyways, Happy Holi & have a gr8 weekend.

Stripey the Cub

I think everybody here knows how there's been a sudden uproar to save the tigers in India. Once upon a time there used to be around 40,000 tigers in India and now the the numbers have dwindled to a mere 1411! This is shocking yet true. Can we do something about it, yes we can!

Call it marketing tactics or whatever, i think Aircel has done a noble thing by joining hands with WWF-India to save tigers. I am planning to spread the awareness in as many ways as possible. For people who are genuinely concerned these are the websites that i am aware of:

http://saveourtigers.com/blog/
http://www.facebook.com/StripeytheCub#!/StripeytheCub

And if there is anything more that u have to share, please feel free to do so. I am sure we can do much more than just saying "Aww.....stripey is so cute!"

All of you have a gr8 weekend and wish u a very Happy Valentine's Day!!

Why Indian students are attacked Abroad....

Disclaimer: People are requested not to take this seriously, it's just plain humor.

It was the first day of a school in USA and a new Indian student named Chandrasekhar Subramanian entered the fourth grade.

The teacher said, "Let's begin by reviewing some American History. Who said 'Give me Liberty, or give me Death'?"

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Chandrasekhar, who had his hand up.

'Patrick Henry, 1775' he said.

'Very good! Who said ''Government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth''?'

Again, no response except from Chandrasekhar.

'Abraham Lincoln, 1863' said Chandrasekhar.

The teacher snapped at the class, 'Class, you should be ashamed. Chandrasekhar, who is new to our country, knows more about our history than you do.'

She heard a loud whisper: 'F ___ the Indians!'

'Who said that?' she demanded.

Chandrasekhar put his hand up.

'General Custer, 1862.'

At that point, a student in the back said, 'I'm gonna puke.'

The teacher glares around and asks 'All right! Now, who said that?'

Again, Chandrasekhar says, 'George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister,1991.'

Now furious, another student yells, 'Oh yeah? Suck this!'

Chandrasekhar jumps out of his chair waving his hand and shouts to the teacher, 'Bill Clinton to Monica Lewinsky,1997'

Now with almost mob hysteria someone said 'You little shit. If you say anything else, I'll kill you.'

Chandrasekhar frantically yells at the top of his voice, 'Michael Jackson to the child witnesses testifying against him, 2004.'

The teacher fainted. And as the class gathered around the teacher on the floor, someone said, 'Oh shit, we're screwed!'

And Chandrasekhar said quietly, 'Lehmann Brothers, November 4th, 2008'!!

What is Love??

Haven't we tried to answer this question innumerable number of times....and how many times have we succeeded!? Well, someone like me would most probably say that "Love is a feeling, it can only be felt and not described". But does the debate end there!? Definitely not....and how? That we are going to see here. Let's start with the meaning of love which i got from the internet:

"Love usually refers to a deep, ineffable feeling of tenderly caring for another person. This limited conception of love, encompasses a wealth of different feelings, from the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love to the nonsexual emotional closeness of familial and platonic love to the profound oneness or devotion of religious love."

Is that all? Not really, I was reading this article in the newspaper yesterday which talked about how to classify love into different kinds and how we can fall into any of these categories. I did a little bit of my own research coz i felt that the article was too small. I guess the editor obviously could not dedicate one whole page for love, unless of course its for something like Valentine's Day.

Anyways, I found that love had its own connotation in different cultures and the one that struck me the most was the Greek one. So let's talk about the different types of love according to the Greeks:

Agape: Means love in modern-day Greek. The term s'agapo means I love you in Greek. The word agapo is the verb I love. It generally refers to a "pure", ideal type of love, rather than the one with physical attraction. It has also been translated as "love of the soul".

Eros: Is passionate love, with sensual desire and longing. The Greek word erota means in love. Although eros is initially felt for a person, with contemplation it becomes an appreciation of the beauty within that person, or even becomes appreciation of beauty itself. Eros helps the soul recall knowledge of beauty and contributes to an understanding of spiritual truth. Some translations list it as "love of the body".

Philia: A dispassionate virtuous love, was a concept developed by Aristotle. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality, and familiarity. Philia is motivated by practical reasons; one or both of the parties benefit from the relationship. It can also mean "love of the mind".

Storge: Also called familial love is natural affection, like that felt by parents for their offspring. Storge may be used as a general term to describe the love between exceptional friends, and the desire for them to care compassionately for one another.
I am sure we can associate with most of the kinds of love given above. So which one do you associate with and why do you think so?
