Bidding Adieu

As the year comes to an end I am reminded of the good and the not so good moments that passed by in the year 2008. Yes your guess is as good as mine; this is going to be my last post of the year. And I cant help myself from going down the memory lane.the good moments that came in the form of a new job which I embraced ever so willingly, the relocation of my bf to Mumbai and the fact that my parents finally gave us the thumbs up was my best personal accomplishment. :) But on the other hand things around me have not been going great. India as a country is becoming more and more unsafe for us to stay. This has been proven by the number of terror attacks that happened at various locations like Jaipur, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. Its a grim reality that we have to face, one has to go through several rounds of security checks wherever we go (read malls, hotels, stations etc). Its really sad that now we get to hear of something called Terrorism Insurance, which was totally unheard of! On the funny side we also have something called as Terrorism Tourism, which means people are actually visiting the terror struck places and coming back with pictures in the form of memorabilia.
Despite all this we have some hope in the form of the awakened citizens of India who are now tired of being resilient, and want strict action to be taken against the politicians who have been taking things too lightly till now, and also against those who think that India can be an easy target for terrorists. We want people to know that We are not going to take things lying down anymore. Although things are far from becoming normal, it was heartening to see the Taj and the Trident Hotel get back to business (yesterday) after 25 days of the terror attacks. The fact that both the hotels re-opened in such a short time proved that we are indomitable. I hope that this time we dont forget what happened on 26/11 and keep the fire alive until we get some concrete measures to tackle terrorism. This would be the best gift that we can get on New Year. I plan to have a quiet Christmas and New Year with my family and loved ones. Leaving this space with the hope that 2009 will be a more happier and peaceful year. Wishing all of u a MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR, and on this note I bid farewell to the year 2008!

"Be happy. It's one way of being wise"

Its only Tuesday and i am already thinking about the weekend....This weekend is going to be gr8!! Saturday will be the usual thing of lunch and movie with my guy. But what i am looking forward to is Saturday night. No i am not going to a party, my bro and sis-in-law are coming to India after 6 months. :) Now, lets talk about some lighter things in life since the past few days have been quite tasking for me both mentally and emotionally. So here are some interesting lines which will hopefully bring a smile to your face.

1.Foolish man tells a woman to STOP talking, but a WISE man tells her that she looks extremely BEAUTIFUL when her LIPS are CLOSED.

2. One GOOD way to REDUCE Alcohol consumption:
Before Marriage - Drink whenever you are SAD
After Marriage - Drink whenever you are HAPPY

3. Three FASTEST means of Communication :
a) Tele-Phone
b) Tele-Vision
c) Tell-a-Woman
Still FASTER - Tell her NOT to tell ANY ONE.

4. Love your friends not their sisters. Love your sisters not their friends.

5. A man got 2 wishes from GOD. He asked for the Best wine and Best Woman.
Next moment, he had the Best Wine and Mother Theresa next to him.
Moral : BE SPECIFIC

6. If you do not have a Girl Friend - You are missing SOME thing in your life. If you have a Girl Friend - You are missing every thing in your life.

7. Question: When do you CONGRATULATE someone for their MISTAKE.
Answer: On their MARRIAGE.

8. When your LIFE is in DARKNESS, pray to god and ask him to free you from Darkness. Even after you pray, if you are still in Darkness - Please pay the ELECTRICITY BILL.

9. Why the Government does NOT allow a Man to MARRY 2 Women. Because as per the Constitution, you cannot be punished twice for the same Mistake.

Silence Speak Volumes

This weekend was full of reminiscence of 26/11. That was because i chose to visit the places which now stood in poignant silence telling us the story of those who lost their lives in one of the worst ever terror attacks. I had the usual lunch and movie routine with my guy. But since we were dining at one of the restaurants at Churchgate, we decided to go on a stroll after lunch. And we started walking towards Nariman Point we saw The Trident-Oberoi. Even though there were no signs of attack externally, but it still had an untold story to tell. Its under renovation now, and is expected to open by Christmas. The whole area around it has been cordoned off to keep people away. Hope it reopens soon.......
We then went ahead to see "Rab Ne Bana di Jodi". Don't feel like talking about the movie, not bcoz i dint like, but bcoz i dont want to talk about it now. Its a good movie and SRK fans will like it for sure!! As the movie ended my next aim was to see the Taj Mahal Hotel.

We went to the Gateway of India to catch a glimpse of the legendary hotel that's been the face of Mumbai for decades. But what i saw was saddening.......both the buildings (old and new) had been cordoned off and no cars were allowed on any of the roads surrounding the Hotel. The hotel wore a deserted look and the old bldg bore the marks of the attacks. (look below)

I clicked two pics of the old Taj coz the new one seemed to be fine except for an opaque barricade that could be seen right from the new Taj to the old one. This has been placed in order to stop people from having a look at the ground floor and first floor of the old Taj which were completely destroyed in the encounter between the terrorists and the NSG commandos.

But the most irritating thing that i saw was that people were getting their own photographs clicked with Taj in the background. Just made me feel as if this was a tourist place and people have come on a picnic. It felt as if all these people around me were mocking the Taj Mahal Hotel. For heavens sake! this hotel has gone through so much....how can one click photos of it in the background......this is not a joke, its a reminder of the ghastly attacks, the pain that people who were inside the hotel had gone through. It is this quality of people which i find very apathetic. I couldn't go to Leopold Cafe coz i was running late for an appointment. I'll go their as well, mebbe next weekend.

Touch Down

Here i am back to reality.....not too glad to be back coz i had quite forgotten the life here when i was at Coorg and Ooty. Life was so much more peaceful and calm out there, no fear of being killed in a firing, no fear of being killed in a bomb blast.....I dunno if these places will always remain safe, but they seem to be so at least as of now. I had a great time relaxing and de-stressing, away from the grim life that awaited me at Mumbai. The first few days we were at Coorg (Karnataka), which is famous for its coffee plantations and dreamy weather. Just a few kms from the main city, there's a Tibetian Monastery which is said to be the 2nd largest Monastery in Asia. We went there and i couldn't stop myself from capturing the beautiful monastery on my mobile. Here are a few pics that i took at Coorg.

Ring a Bell

Enter The Dragon

The Golden Temple also known as Namdroling Temple

Lord Buddha Amongst Others

Lady in Red

We also saw Coffee plantations and spice plantations, not to forget we also tried the Coorgie Cuisine which was very hot and spicy. From Coorg we proceeded to Ooty which is another hill station in Tamil Nadu. Even though people had told us that it will be cold at Ooty, we didn't really believe it until we reached there. The min temperature at Ooty was 10 degrees centrigrade. The journey to Ooty was very scenic and i managed to click some really nice pics on my way.....Check them out:

Eucalyptus Forest

Sunlit Pathway

Tea Estates

Although i preferred staying indoors due to the cold weather, we did manage to go to a few places at Ooty like this Botanical Garden, which was huge. We had one whole hour to ourselves and still we couldn't see the whole Garden. This is an interesting pic that dad took from the digicam.

Go Green

And this is how my vacation came to an end! :( With a heavy heart i came back to Mumbai yesterday afternoon. There was a lot of work to do....the worst one being unpacking. Now there's a truckload of clothes waiting to be washed in the washing machine. I went to office today and needless to say there was a lot of work to do. My inbox was full of mails, 550 to be precise! I had a tough time reading them and deleting the unnecessary ones. I had bought some spices for my boss and chocolates for others. I also bought a lot of oils like Saffron Almond Oil and Eucalyptus Oil, which were very reasonably priced.

Anyways, life is back to usual now, i plan to see "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" this weekend. And i also want to visit the Taj Hotel and Leopold Cafe which witnessed the terror attacks last week. I want to end on a happy note, so here is a pic i took from a mountain peak and i feel it has turned out really well.

And another pic which i took on my way from Conoor to Ooty is this station which is famous for its interesting name.

Mumbai Burns Again!!

An excerpt from one of the news websites of India:

"At least 101 people, including a foreign tourist and a top counter-terror officer, were killed and about 287 injured as terrorists struck in the heart of Mumbai in planned and synchronized attacks.Terrorists held people hostage in two five-star hotels, the Taj Intercontinental and Trident (formerly Oberoi) facing the waterfront across the Arabian Sea, and the Madam Cama Hostel.Three top police officials, including Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, were among the nine policemen killed in gunfights with the terrorists, police confirmed."

What more can i say......i am speechless!! I have gone numb, to think of it i was thinking of writing a happy post yesterday. But dunno what went into me and i delayed it by a day.....had never thought that things would change so dramatically in one day. The happiness has been turned into tears and there's a sense of gloom all around me. I never thought that there would come a day when we would have a holiday due to terrorist attacks! Yes, i have been at home today, watching the television for minute to minute updates on the worst ever terror attack in Mumbai. It feels disgusting to know that there are such people who derive pleasure from such attacks and feel motivated to spread terror amongst people.

By the way i am going on a family vacation to Coorg & Ooty; two beautiful hill stations in South India this Saturday and will be back only on 8th December. It couldn't have come at a better time.....i am not being a coward by running away from this...but i want to take time off from everything happening around! Will be back soon and i hope everybody is safe and sound with their families.

The Week that Was....

Yep i jus realised tht the week swiftly passed by me. And i had fun in more ways than one! To start with, i had a reception to attend on Thursday. It was the reception of a grad batch mate of mine, both were my batchmates but i had gone from the girl's side. I can't tell you how pretty was she looking. She was looking like a cute doll and i said tht to her as well....I also met a couple of my other batchmates, so most of the evening was spent in catching up with them. Everybody kept asking me, "when's ur turn coming?" and all i could mumble was "dont worry it will happen sometime soon!" :) The food was good, but i m not going into details......i have a lot more to say than this. The evening ended by 10.30 p.m for me and i was back home in 10 mins coz thankfully the venue was very close to my place. So this was Thursday for me.

Then came Friday, and i was anxiuosly waiting for the evening to arrive. And so it did, i went and collected the tickets from the counter tht had been set up by my b-school. And the show started at 7.30 p.m.......Well, i dunno wht more to write coz there's nothing more to write abt Yuvvraaj!! The extra 'v' and 'a' would have worked only if Subhash Ghai would have thought of a concrete storyline......the movie is a typical saga of 3 brothers fighting for their father's property. Anil Kapoor is good as an autistic child, but his potential has been wasted in this movie. Salman Khan is his usual self....i have nothing more to say about him. Katrina Kaif looks pretty in the various gowns prancing around the scenic locales of Prague and Austria. And last but definitely the least is Zayed Khan, he's nothing but a mere caricature.......i dunno wht was his role in the movie!! The only good thing abt the movie is the music by A.R Rehman, i am sure his music would hav got better justice if it wasn't for this film. That was Friday for me, and i was thankful to my college coz they saved me from wasting my money on a movie like Yuvvraaj!

And then came Saturday....which was obviously the best of the three days coz i met my guy! :) I finished my work by 12 noon and he was there waiting for me outside my office. I rushed to see him and as always he said tht i look gorgeous and he jus cudn't take his eyes off me! Wht could i say, i was only blushing like a teenaged girl who had fallen in love for the first time. Anyways, going further we had lunch at Yoko Sizzlers....which was really yummy!! And then we proceeded to see Dostana. It was the first time for my guy, and the 2nd time for me and yet i dint get bored of the movie. I enjoyed the first half and the theatre was full, everybody was in splits thru the first half....the only thing was tht i found the climax to be kinda ok now, coz i felt if it wud hav been any different it wud hav been a bit too predictable. Well, i came back from the cinema and went to the Salon to get some TLC, i also got a French Manicure which is looking absolutely amazing!! :) And today i m goin to "Family Fun" with my parents so i better get goin.....Cya around soon and do tell me how was your weekend?

This week is fully loaded, i'll tell u how in a while. But first i would like to make a special mention of a couple of my dear blogger friends who seem to have gone into an exile and i am missing them terribly......

1. Keshi: Hun! we all r waiting for ur amazing posts which u used to write everyday....plz come back soon!! Miss u lots! :(

2. Multimenon: He's gonna be busy due to exams, all the best bro and be back soon!!

3. Mia: She is caught up with work and her new life in the US. Although she's trying hard but things r not what it used to be. :( Miss u babe!

4. Vrij: I miss ur witty posts buddy, but now tht he's a proud father Vidip seems to be taking all his time. I hope he starts writing like the way he used to before.

5. Hemu: He too seems to have gone into an exile and i dunno when will he be back!! Plz come back soon buddy.

6. Solitaire: Who has consciously decided to stop blogging!! :( I dunno whats with ppl quitting the blog world off late....and the worst part is that we can't even stop them from doing it!!

7. Gunj: She's busy with her new life at Mysore. And doesn't hav much time for blogging. :(

In the meanwhile i have made some new friends too like Sam, Phoenix, Arunima, Nidhi and Sawan. I guess this is what life is all about......u meet different kinds of ppl, some stay with us, some move on.....and some new faces appear from somewhere. Anyways, i am not getting into the philosophy of life right now.

Coming to what i had started with, my week is fully loaded....and it started with today. My guy is back from Goa, and since i missed him so much this weekend, i met him today after work. We spent some quality time at Cafe Coffee Day and he was telling how refreshing was the Goa trip. :) I am happy for him....but at the same time i wish i was there with him! :( One of my grad batchmate is getting married on 20th Nov, so i'll b attending her reception on the 20th evening. Now that reminds me, i haven't yet bought a gift for her (will get it tomorrow). My b-school, where i graduated from, is showing us "Yuvvraaj" this Friday evening. So there goes my Friday, on Saturday i will hav to go to work for a few hrs and then i'll be watching Dostana again with my guy. :) And last but not the least....Sunday will be a busy day too coz our company is organizing a fair kinda thing which is called "Family Fun Weekend", so i'll be taking my parents along. Phew! and i m definitely not complaining.....I love to stay busy, especially if it involves pleasurable activities like these. :)

The "Dostana" Special

Hi people! So wassup with all of u? What did you do on this weekend? This weekend was a little different for me coz my guy wasn't around. :( He has gone to Goa with two of his friends. So i decided to see Dostana with a friend of mine today. In fact i just came back sometime ago. The movie was good but the only thing that i dint like was the climax. I mean it was completely unexpected and uncalled for! Anyways, i'll not spoil the fun by telling the story here. Most of u must be already aware that this movie has a gay theme, and i must admit there were some really funny rib-tickling moments in there. The songs are ok, my favorites are Desi Girl, Jaane Kyun and Khabar Nahin. The item song done by Shilpa Shetty is strictly ok, i feel she has looked hotter than this before even though she has exposed a lot in this song. Priyanka looks good most of the times, Abhishek is ok (I am not an Abhishek fan so i can't say more than this), and last but certainly not the least is John Abraham!! The only word for him is "HOT"!!

I mean he has never looked so hot.......he can now be called the new Greek god of Bollywood. No wonder he has been voted as one of the top 25 sexiest men in the world. Kiron Ker is good as always, and there is an interesting cameo too! Don't ask me who it is, better watch it yourself. :) My rating to this movie is 3.5/5. I wanted to give it a 4 but since i dint like the climax i had to cut that 0.5. So watch it to have a good time.....and please don't expect an impressive storyline coz the USP of Karan Johar lies in making larger than life movies and not realistic cinema. And for those of u who have already watched it, lemme know how it was??

The Moment is here....

In the past few days my life has moved so fast, that i haven't even had the time to stop by and share it with my dear friends out here. But god has his own sweet ways of sending opportunities which came in the form of a bank holiday today, so that i can share with you the matters of my heart. Monday was a busy day as my boss came back from a vacation (he was on leave since Diwali). After a long day at work, i had to rush to my regular salon.....i had an appointment for coloring my hair. :) Yes, my hair now has a nice burgundy tinge to it, i love to change my look every few months. Then came Tuesday which was a very special day of my life......lemme see if u can guess what happened!?...........
Ok without wasting much time let me tell u what happened, my guy came over to my place for the first time!! He had met my parents earlier on Diwali too, but that was more of a formal meeting. But on Tuesday he had come over for a family dinner, i was dieing to get back home from work coz i knew that he would be there by the time i reached. I wrapped up everything at work and left for home by 6.20 p.m, my heart was beating so hard that i felt as if i was running in a marathon!! :) Anyways, i reached home by 7 p.m and i can't explain what i felt when i saw him sitting in our living room and talking to my mom. For a moment i felt as if we were already married! The evening transformed beautifully......and i had the best dinner of my life. It was as if all my dreams were turning into reality.......
our relationship was finally getting the formal seal of my parents after waiting for 8 long yrs.

I could see the twinkle in his eye......and he in turn could see the glow on my face which was impossible for me to hide. I was just so happy that i was afraid that i would burst into tears any moment. After spending 3 and a half hours with us he left for home.......i wanted to stop him from going......i wanted this moment to last forever, how i wished that he could stay back with me at my place. But he had to leave......and so we talked on phone till the time he reached home safely. I had the most peaceful sleep ever that night......had never thought that my parents would accept him as a part of my life so beautifully! Now, they plan to meet his parents soon and finalise the dates for our engagement, wedding etc. OMG i m so overwhelmed that i m afraid i'll have to stop here right now......Please excuse me guys!! :*)

What's Going On!?

Hi ppl! I had a good weekend.....actually if i had to dissect my weekend i would say Sunday was far better....coz i was at work for most of the day on Saturday and after that i cud just squeeze in enough time for my salon pampering session. :) That certainly made me feel better! Sunday was usual with a movie and lunch wrapped up together. This time i and my guy watched "Quantum of Solace". I haven't seen any of the earlier bond movies, so don't ask me how it was coz i found it just fine. Nothing too gr8 for me to gush about and recommend it to all of you. Anyways, lunch was as always nice and we tried out a new restaurant again like we always do! :)

Ok, now there's something more than this that i want to write about here. I am going to share a few pics which most of u guys might have seen as an e-mail forward. But for those who haven't go ahead and have a look.

Yes these are the pics of the "Brangelina Family". Aren't they cute? Well definitely....the new born twins look so sweet and innocent. And the credit goes to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for sure, no wonder these pics fetched them $14 mn!! I dunno when did this trend of auctioning started but it's definitely a gr8 way to earn quick money. Atleast these are pics of cute babies, there are other bizarre things that i have heard of being auctioned for millions of dollars. Things like the shaved hair of Britney Spears (eww...what would someone do with it), the inner wear of Whitney Houston (who would want to wear used under garments), underpants of Michael Jackson......and the list goes on!! I just can't understand who buys these things and how do people agree to buy such kinda things for astronomical amounts of money! Do these people have so much money that they just don't mind wasting it on buying such things......and if they really do have so much of money to waste then how about wasting some money in the name of charity. On one hand we have people who can waste money for no rhyme or reason and on the other hand we have people dieing of hunger and poverty every single day. This is the kind of disparity that i have always disliked......and one just can't over look such things and live on. What's your take on this matter.......Is it right for people to auction their most private moments in order to earn quick money? And is it right on the part of people to actually go ahead and buy these items for huge sums of money? Which of these according to you is morally wrong and why?
