I've followed the computer industry for 26+ years.. I remember a time when Apples marketshare was thru the roof. I also remember a company called Commodore that is still the best selling personal computer of all time.
I know a whole lot more people who would be more inclined to buy a Mac if they could run their favorite app, or the latest game under MacOSX.
That sort of thing can only come with market share.
The switch to Intel can go one of two ways.. it could get Macs in peoples hands, who grow to prefer the OSXperience and abandon Windows all together.. or it could end up being an Alienware kind of computer that people buy as a status symbol, but run Windows on it.
Heck, you may start to see software developers abandon their Mac divisions all together.. figuring that since most Intel Mac users have Windows installed, they can just write ONE version of their software and cover all bases.
Growth and increased market share is good for Apple, and good for their customers.
There is a long list of hardware companies that gave up their propriatary designs and archetecture and adopted the 'x86' that you don't hear much of anymore.
What seperates Apple from those companies is their totally rockin' OS.. but an OS is only as good as the software that's available for it.
I tell ya what i'd really like to see.. the ability to run XP apps from within OSX.. sort of like Wine.. in an easy to use and configure setup.

A few people have set up chat for MWSF in ichat. it is called: MWSF08. Simply go to file>Go to chatroom> MWSF08. All 7 of us in the room were wondering if MacRumors could lock this or announce it somehow.

LOL! I'm sure glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. Previous notices came out with the update. Oh well. I was so hopeful that it was for a 3rd update.
You know, these downloadable updates seem to be more substantial than simple updates and their build iterations are also indicative of somer much more serious changes. I hope they keep with the downloadable updates until we need to test the installer more.

Well, the price differential is not inconsiderable. Based on the www.cpuscorecard.com website, I just spec'ed out a Dell computer with a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 (closest processor to the dual 1.25 Ghz Powermac) and compared it to a similarly outfitted Powermac from the Applestore:

Whats this feature for? I don't know if it was in SL Server but its part of the mail settings and don't know if its for certification or for using apple's mobile me mail service for pushing mail to iOS devices.
This looks like Push notifications for email will finally work :-)

I've always had great service from T-Mobile.
I hear that customers with iPhones on T-Mobile who need help get transferred to the "Unsupported Handset Area" where they more than help out since there are so many iPhones on T-Mobile and they are a provider in Europe...

I remember having something my brother threw in my nose removed [damn little brother...] I screamed whenever the doctor came near me... The only way for them to remove it is to put me out... I remember one doctor held my head [since I was scared of needle too] and one inserting the needle... I could feel the liquid... then i looked at the light bulb and thought "there's a spot on the..." waking up is tiring indeed... you just feel so heavy, all you want to do is go back to sleep...

This demonstrates that Adobe is a bunch of morons. If they listened to Apple and used xCode they could click one button and produce a universal binary.
Perhaps Adobe writes ****** software that isn't engineered to be platform independant.
it isn't that simple, especially if their code is as outdated as i've been reading it is. hell, i am working with the poisoned p2p developers and even we are having trouble making it a universal binary. it involves much more than just clikcing a box in most cases.

Just what can Target say? "If you allow Apple do do something that might cut into out DVD sales we will intentionally sell fewer DVD" Kind of like holding a gun to your head threatening to shoot.
Well, the idea being that if Wal-mart (reported to be selling 40% of all DVDs in the US) and Target suddenly pull out of the DVD business, that would be a 40+% hit in DVD revenue, to which I don't think Apple could possibly pick up, nor would all those people go to Apple.
Now you say that people will just shop elsewhere, but that isn't going to be true either. Many people buy DVDs on either impulse or because they are cheap. Not everyone who would buy a DVD at Wal-Mart will suddenly be willing to another shop and pay $5 more.
Now, Wal-Mart and Target won't pull everything at once, so I'm not sure exactly what they could do. But anything they do WILL be felt by the movie industry in the short run at least.
And to those that say Apple won't put a dent in retail sales, you're wrong :)

But in a 100 years we will be downloading all our entertainment, which means that sometime between now and then SOMEONE is going to take over that distribution. If Wal-Mart is in no position to make that move to online, than they have to stall those that are as much as possible until they are able to get in the game.
btw- how can Wal-mart make this claim about iTunes robbing retail when they themselves have an online music store. I'm not sure why a parallel can't be drawn between music and movies...

The only thing I'm missing on my 11" MBA is an SD card slot. I use my MBA 80% for pictures and video. I use a Wifi SD card now but away from home the SD slot would be great.
Why don't you enable internet sharing on your mac instead? You don't need to be actually connected to the internet if you only wanna gain access to your computer.

Yeah, I know about dragging it onto the mail icon, but that is a flick of the wrist, which is inherently more of a strain than two clicks with a finger! :D
I never really knew about automator. I looked at it after you mentioned it, but can't figure out how to go about the task. If you have any pointers that'd be great.
