Don't feel any real positive emotion out of it because of how long it took, and how the most damage of 9/11 came from our response in my opinion, but yay I guess? I don't believe he was very active in Al Qaeda anymore, and even if he was, he's an easy replacement.

I agree with both your points.

He will be easily replaced I guess... if Al Qaeda isn't already splintered so far that there's no leadership required.

The most significant effect of this will be on the psychology of the West, particularly in the US. Most of the negative effect of 'terrorism' has been inflicted by the US on itself.

I saw one in the wild.

Employee at an AT&T store in Charlotte, NC had one last week when I stopped in to purchase a car charger. He said they are probably going to be out soon, but mentioned that he is having problems with the proximity sensor. he said the screen display is staying on when he is on calls and that his cheek/ear are activating display controls. Could it be an issue with the bright white reflecting too much light into the sensor?

    What about the Afghani people?

I've been using Parallels for running VISTA and Win XP but today I found the link for the Vmware Beta Download that has only from what I understand been handed out to some for testing.

Here is the link that I downloaded the beta from:
    http://fs01n5.sendspace.com/dl/6144991f8a6907390971fa15063bfbdf/45743bcd/h08tq5/VMware-Fusion-e.x.p-33141.dmg

I?m running it and works well. I know it?s in Beta but already after installing and running our Full copy of Vista and Win XP on Fusion, I?m going to stick with Vmware.

Now, right now it?s free, and not sure if it will cost money down the road for Vmware, but this one is free but only perk to Vmware is that the ?Vmware? logo pop up as a water mark on the screen every now and then. Hasesnt really bothered me.

Anyways, good luck if you try it out.
Can?t wait for the full release free or not, will probably get it.

    Carter

Apple pays 70% straight to the record companies, which would be $0.90. If Amazon pays the same, then they have $0.21 loss before they even start. Or Amazon gets different prices than Apple, which would need some explaining.

How so? Why would there need to be some explaining, if this was the case?

360's main advantage is that it's the only console of the three to release the next generation version. They have a year's head start on the other two.

They're still losing money on the 360, but component costs will drop until they are making a profit on boxes. Don't forget, ALL consoles lose money when they first ship. With the original xbox, they never really caught up, but it looks like they will this time around. And with the PS3 shipping at an even higher price, there's less pressure for them to drop prices. As much money as MS has been losing, Sony stands to lose much more. If Sony doesn't get their act together, I could see MS and Nintendo driving Sony out of the video game business.

That's the goal, but so far they have yet to get out of the red on xbox and 360. And "ish"? You seriously just said that?

It does play GAMES at HD resolutions, right? The original post never said it plays HD dvd's.

Then it is an HD CONSOLE not an HD PLAYER. Player implies HD media.

Hey, don't say that too loud.

From the ever changing Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGIcons/chapter_14_section_2.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000967-TPXREF102):Making each toolbar icon distinct helps the user associate it with its purpose and locate it quickly. Variations in shape, color, and image all help to differentiate one toolbar icon from another.
And that's how they read now… "Back" at the release of Tiger it was like this: Each toolbar icon should be easily and quickly distinguishable from the other items in the toolbar. Toolbar icons emphasize their outline form, rather than subtler visual details.
55119(no explanation on why the changed was deemed more appropriate).

Hey, don't look at me. I did not write that!

Honestly, this is great news.

So many Mac users are completely ignorant and oblivious to the fact that their Mac is, contrary to popular belief, not that secure in some respects. Many Mac zealots and apologists will tout how bullet-proof OS X is, how it's nothing like Windows, how it's amazingly secure - well, it isn't in some cases.

Sure, it's still better in many respects than Windows, but Mac users should not be lured into a false sense of security over these matters. They need to be smart with their systems and not take anything for granted. Hopefully reports like this will assist those people in seeing the light. As Mac marketshare increases and more of a spotlight is put on OS X, it will attract more people who will try and exploit security vulnerabilities and so forth, so now more than ever this type of information needs to be made known. And more importantly, Apple needs to agressively address such matters timely and effectively.

OS X is great, but it isn't perfect.

Surprising how heated the debate on this can get - I think it's a great story.

Boy makes mistake (as does mother, in not supervising him closely enough). The mother asks for help from Apple, and Apple complies even though they don't have to. The boy, and his mother are very unlikely to make the same mistake again - and the same holds for any parent reading this story! :p

Sounds like a win - win - win - win scenario to me!

Yes, but you are you missing the fact that this is an ideal opportunity for the armchair libertarians to wail about how intrusive the government is.

As said, less press coverage, but also maybe more important is that now there is a gap between the [rosumer line and the consumer line ;)

How has Apple NOT innovated on the Mac line up?

    - Completely redesigned and absolutely beautiful architecture on the insides of the Mac Pro
    - MagSafe
    - 24" all in one machine
    - Front Row/apple Remote/iSight in every "portable" Mac
    - Two finger right clicking on trackpad

All of this in the year of a move to a new platform.

The REAL innovations though, will occur in the second generation of Intel products. THe most important thing was to make a swift but calm switchover to ensure nobody got nervous over the move. Now we are here, 2007 will be sick.

    Again:

-Intel Chips are not innovation. Its change of suppliers.
    -Magsafe is an actual innovation.
-24" monitors have been around for like 10 yrs.... slappig into an iMac isnt innovation its either ballsy managing or perfect timing
-A webcam.... and a software to list all ur media.... nice not new. ITS A WEBCAM PEOPLE. THATS ALL. IT DOESNT SAVE CHILDREN.
-I thought Sony had a laptop that did this already? Can't confirm.

A little harsh here - you don't know if he payed for the music or not and it might also contain movies and other stuff. I know many people that collect lots of music CD's and movie DVDs over the many moons they are on the planet and ripping that in high quality needs lots of storage. Many people try to rip at highest quality possible and that is expensive storage wise. Just don't assume it's is stolen - might be, but you and I don't know.

Because many people get angry about just anything that Apple does ... so I'm not sure why they go to a MacRumor site which is apple biased - but that might be just a way for them to vent off their frustration with life.

highly unlikely he spent that much money on something like that and $20/year is too much money for cloud service lol

my fear is the democrats will try to use this a political gain and that is so very wrong both to the military and for this good event.

It turns a great event into worthless BS. It was just luck of the draw that a Dem was in power when this happen and it was only a matter of time. I already am watching some people try to turn it into political gain and it makes me sick.
Only took 96 posts before someone threw the celebration into the *****ter.

VMWare is going to smoke Parallels when it comes out. I can?t wait. I'm still a little bit miffed though that no one has gotten native partition support so we can use the same partition while virtualizing or dual booting.

How reliable has Bloomberg been in the past? If they have a good track record, then this could actually be the first good sign that the iPhone 5 is delayed.

However, the article cites a random Toronto "analyst" as the basis for the delayed 5, and a tweet as the basis for the white version coming soon (in addition to two supposed informants).

I'm still convinced that Apple has done a good job of tightening up it's leaks this year, and we're seeing desperation from the tech sphere for any news. Does anyone remember the extremely crazy rumors from earlier this year? I have a feeling lots of plugs were leaked at that time, and this could be Apple testing security prior to WWDC.

I already got two potential Christmas presents early:

    (lovin' it something fierce!)

    and

    Would love to have this:

    or this:

    http://regmedia.co.uk/2010/01/27/ipad_rgb.jpg

But since my budget nowadays says "oh hells to the naw", I'll probably have to settle for this:

    https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvOMevHxYmVOHgmIj5sRObyl6DfnQRDTS8GDm3sNtLamsF7LZ7PglqyXpTn5JRUeWWeCPsaPJZEU3kf4oEIlrI-9zZY73SFnU7oqkVIYml3BRkuKHPjJShA9sOpGZyeGpwGDOfMVHp-s9T/s1600/hojoboxset.jpg

It's the 3-CD box set of Howard Jones's first two albums, being released soon on his Dtox label. Warner/Elektra gave Howard and his keyboard tech Robbie Bronnimann access to the original master tapes, and they've digitally remastered the albums with reportedly much better sound quality than the original CD issues. The third bonus disc, named after his rare "Risk" singles, contains live tracks from early performances.
