Revisiting History

A couple of pics from the last weekend when we had gone down to Central London:

The Tower Bridge

Architectural Delight

Lean On

The Half Egg

The Husband

The Monument

Most of us know about the Tower Bridge (the 1st pic) which is one of the major landmarks of London, and we were lucky to witness the lifting of the Bridge which takes place whenever there's a ship/vessel which is too big to pass under it. The whole process takes around 10-15 mins and its an interesting experience to watch it.

The other place we saw was The Monument to the Great Fire of London, more commonly known as The Monument which is a 202 ft tall stone Roman Doric column near the northern end of London Bridge. It stands at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill, 202 ft from where the Great Fire of London started in 1666.

People interested in history please read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_the_Great_Fire_of_London

We climbed up the 311 steps of The Monument to see a breathtaking view of the city skyline and got a certificate after we got down from there. It was one helluva cardio workout i must say, but i sure did enjoyed the whole experience! :)

Joie De Vivre

Had yet another gr8 weekend pass by me. One of my hubby's friends had come over to our place for the weekend along with his gf. We sampled a Turkish restaurant near by which totally took us by surprise, the starters were lip smacking-ly good. Got stuff from the supermarket and cooked up some amazing food, also had drinks to go with it. :) Stayed up till 2 a.m talking about life and other things. This was how Saturday ended.

Sunday started late...woke up at around 10 a.m, grabbed some breakfast. I really dunno how do ppl skip breakfast?? Coz the first thing that i can think of once i am up in the morning is food. Anyways, back to Sunday, we got ready and went to Oxford Street. Oxford Street is a shopper's paradise, u name any brand and there it is! The pic above was clicked in the shoe section of Selfridges which is one of the biggest stores in London.

Today is a special day, it marks the completion of 3 months of 'us' being married. :) What makes it even more special is the fact that it's the first time that we are together on this date. The last 2 months were spent apart coz he was here and i was back home in India waiting for the visa to work out. Well, let me see if i can rustle up something special in the kitchen, for my hubby tonight.

Life has been good so far...its been 3 weeks of my being here in London and i like this city. London is pretty much like Mumbai; its vast, vibrant and cosmopolitan with ppl from all over the world...but the one thing that sets it apart from Mumbai is discipline and greenery. The city is really very well planned and clean in most of the parts. It's not easy to manage a city that's as large as London.

I am beginning to love this life and i wonder how will i deal with it when it begins to change yet again, which it will once i start working...Well, lemme take one day at a time, and i would rather cross the bridge once i am there. So that's it for now, hope u guys have a gr8 week ahead. So temme, how was your weekend?

Back to Normalcy

Yeah that's how it is supposed to be, i am back to normal life after two long weekends which just flew past me. To be fair, i don't think i should say that, of course i realized the amount of fun i had, seeing all the new places, meeting all the people whom i met for the very first time. The amount of time i got to spend with hubby was just amazing!

The Bournemouth trip was really good...the weather was a bit of a dampener though, we had expected it to be warm and sunny, but it was actually cloudy n windy! So we were in for a surprise when we reached there. I wasn't carrying my jacket so poor hubby was left without a jacket, as i was wearing his jacket most of the times.

Anyways, time to go to bed now. I leave you with a few pics taken during the long weekend. Have a gr8 week ahead all of you. :)

My Long Weekend

Had one helluva weekend...i don't think i can write about all that i did. But i can definitely put up the pics of the places i saw. And yes, i saw my first movie (Fast and the furious 5) out at a theatre nearby. The movie was definitely not worth the amount of money we spent on it (traveling, eating nachos and the tickets in itself), it could have been a lot better!! I guess this is what happens with most of the sequels, the pressure to do something better than the previous one is just too much and that's what makes them go over the top. Anyways, getting back to the pics, here they are:

Drinks@Canary Wharf

Royalty: Oxford Street

The famous Piccadilly Circus

These Men are Alive!

Taking a Break

The Trafalgar Square

And yes i also did some cooking, made the traditional egg curry just the way its made in the East. My hubby seems to be in love with whatever i rustle up in the kitchen these days. And i don't think he's just being nice to me coz he doesn't like to mince words when it comes to speaking the truth. So that means my cooking experiments are turning out to be pretty good. *takes a bow*

So this was my weekend summed up. Walked a lot, but in the end it was totally worth it. Walking here doesn't really tire you much coz the weather's so pleasant plus the surroundings are so clean and nice. :) But one very important thing to remember is to wear proper foot wear, trust me guys it's not very cool to walk around in those heels coz after an hour or so, your foot starts hurting like hell! I realised this the hard way, so now i am friends with gladiator sandals and/or canvas flats which are so much more comfortable. So, how was your weekend?

A Doofus Weekend

What do you do when u have got nothing to do on a weekend like the one just passed by? Well, u spend half the day on facebook playing silly games and commenting on every other person's status updates and pics. You try to start packing for the long impending trip and give up soon enough coz u don't know how are you going to take the truckloads of stuff that u have bought over a period of 5 yrs.

U call up a few friends and try to make some plans to catch up with them, since u know that u r not gonna meet them for the next few years, only to realise that they are too busy with their own lives to meet u. Then u remember that there were a few clothes that were supposed to be given for dry cleaning, so u rush there without any further delay, only to find the damn shop closed!

Finally, u get back home and switch on the idiot box, settle down on the couch to watch the two supposedly super hit movies (the channels would like to claim so!), namely 'Action Replayy' & 'Robot'. I can't tell you which one was worse...and no i am not a Rajini fan so i hated Robot as much as i did Action Replayy. Both the movies seemed to have one thing in common, they dint make any "sense".

The only silver lining to this dark weekend were the long conversations that i had with hubby dear discussing life, the plans we have for each other and the things that i would like to do once i am there, and the fab dinner that i had with my parents at a uber cool restaurant yesterday (yep it was from my side). The dinner ended with a gooey chocolate cake which i had been craving for since long! :)

Note: Please say a little prayer for all the people of Japan who got a rude shock on Friday in the form of an earth quake of 8.8 intensity followed by a tsunami which left nothing that came in its way. Hope god gives them the strength to get back on their feet. Dear God, please be kind and reduce the sufferings of all mankind.

Me is Lovin It!

I have never been so happy on a Monday morning....Yes i have to go on record to say this coz anybody who knows me would know, how much do i sulk about Mondays. But today seems to be a special day or at least it appears to be so for me. Let me tell u where does all this happiness stem from, I had a wonderfully awesome and eventful weekend.

First things first, i got X-tenso Moisturist done, well to put it in plain words (for all the men who don't know) its the latest treatment in hair straightening by Loreal. And the result, silky straight hair which looks so natural and shiny that i just can't stop touching my hair (psst...my hubby to be loves me with the straight hair look, so this is me for u baby!). *kisses*

And now coming to the 2nd and most exciting thing, i finally got a permanent tattoo yesterday. I am really sorry that i can't go into details coz i don't want my guy to know anything more than this (yes he reads my blog regularly). Its a surprise for him and even though he knows that i got a tattoo, he doesn't know where and what exactly it is. :)

Before anybody asks, let me tell you that it did hurt but not as much as i had expected it to. It's still in the healing phase and it needs to be bandaged for at least the 1st two days. I have been told that it will take around a week for it to heal completely. I must say that this time i have managed to surprise myself too by taking this decision, i was never that keen on getting a permanent tattoo.

Besides, i never really thought that it was worth the pain...but last week i got this discount voucher for a tattoo lounge which happened to be in the same area where i live. Something in me made me go and see the man who eventually managed to convince me to get one. And man was he good!

Not only is he into this line from the past 15 yrs, he's also a chemical engineer from University of Maryland, he's got a pharma factory, and he's also a trained psychologist! Talk about being multi-faceted, he could actually say what would look best on me based on my nature and behavior & he gave me a tattoo which i will cherish for a long time to come.

So this is a happy me signing off for now! *singing kaisa lagta hai, achcha lagta hai...from the Hindi film Baaghi*

Goodness Gracious

An old man lived alone in a village. He wanted to plant potatos in the garden, but it was a lot of hard work. His only son, who could have helped him, was in prison.

The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:

Dear Son,

I am feeling really bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant the potatoes in my garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved gardening. I guess I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren't in prison.

Love,
Dad

Shortly the old man received this telegram:
"For heaven's sake, dad, don't dig up the garden!! That's where I buried the guns!!"

At 4 a.m next morning, a dozen of FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asked him what to do next.

His son's reply was:
"Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It's the best I could do for you from here."

Moral:
"NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, IF YOU HAVE DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING DEEP FROM YOUR HEART YOU CAN DO IT. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT MATTERS NOT WHERE YOU ARE OR WHERE THE OTHER PERSON IS"

All of you have a blessed weekend! :)

Different Minds think Differently

Last night Harry and his wife were sitting in the living room, talking about life. In between they talked about the idea of living and dying.

He said to her: Darling never let me live in a vegetative state, totally dependent on machines and liquids from a bottle. If you see me in that state I want you to disconnect all the contraptions that are keeping me alive, I'd much rather die.

His wife got up from the sofa with this real look of admiration towards him, and proceeded to disconnect the TV cable, the dish, the DVD player, the computer, the cell phone, the ipod, and the Xbox, and then went on to the bar and threw away all his whisky, rum, gin, vodka & the beer in the fridge.

HE ALMOST DIED!!

The moral of the story is: Think before you wish for something.

Wish you all a happy and fun filled weekend! :)

After a Long Weekend....

I am suffering from what u call, "The Long Weekend Hangover". The strange thing was that we got a holiday on Friday for Eid & Eid turned out to be on Saturday. :P Thank god the holiday dint get cancelled. Anyways, Friday went well with a trip to the salon for some tlc & a dinner with family friends which ended past midnight. I also finished "The Lost Symbol", yeah i had lost track in between, had no time to read the climax coz of busy weekdays. The climax according to me was a total let down, hadn't really expected it to turn out this way.

Coming back to the extended weekend, Saturday went well with the beginning of the Ganesh Chaturthi. There was Puja at home & in the building as well, as what we call a 'dedh din ka ganpati' had been bought, which means that the Ganesh idol was immersed yesterday afternoon. There was aarti downstairs in the evening along with a programme where kids performed on various songs & devotional songs were sung.

Sunday went well even though it got a bit hectic towards the end. Had gone to a family friend's house for a grand Eid lunch, there was a huge spread of special delicacies which i whole heartedly gorged on. :) Spent close to 3 hrs there, socialising with friends n family & got back home only by 5 p.m! Barely got an hour to spend at home & rushed to the theatre nearby to catch the new hindi film release "Dabangg". The movie's a no brainer, full time pass. Please don't go expecting some meaning out of it coz u won't get any! So, watch it to have a good laugh coz Salman is hilarious in most of the parts.

So i leave you with this quote to ponder upon, wish u all a great week ahead!! :)

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.

When Dreams turn into Reality

First of all i would like to thank all the people who actually read the post below & gave me their valuable inputs. I won't say that i am completely over that phase but i am definitely better than what i was a day or two back. :)

Just when i was not expecting anything gr8 from this weekend, my best friend calls me up to ask me if i would like to watch Inception & i am glad that i said a yes. Despite the bad weather, i braved the heavy rains and went all the way to Sion to watch Inception & man what a movie it was! If i had anything to say about it then i would only say two words "Freakin Awesome". Chistopher Nolan has proved it yet again that he belongs to the best league of directors in Hollywood.

The man who has directed movies like 'The Prestige' & 'The Dark Knight' puts you in a tizzy as u traverse the path between dreams & reality....The performances and the cinematography are riveting & mind boggling. I would give a 5/5 to this movie & it is absolutely recommended to those who have love movies that make you think.

P.S. My Saturday ended on an apt note with a trip to the salon where i pampered myself followed by a trip to the mall, got a new bag & a few accessories! :P I still have the whole of Sunday to go but i just couldn't stop myself from writing this post. So how did your weekend go?

The Monday Morning Update

Got this really creative ad on mail and since it is so pertinent couldn't stop myself from putting it up here:

(Please click on the pic to enlarge)

It's a lazy Monday morning and i can't stop yawning!! Didn't do anything much during the weekend, just stayed indoors and enjoyed the monsoons. Saved money too by not seeing "Raavan" on the big screen. I so knew that this movie was going to bomb at the box office. I can actually think of taking up an alternate profession of being a film critic. :P I am that good at it!

The only thing worth a watch in the movie is the cinematography, sorry i can't spend 250/- on just the cinematography, I had rather wait for its world TV premiere (which will happen sometime soon just like the movie Kites which will shown on Colors channel on 27th June). :D So what did you do this weekend?
