BTW, you do not need to backup the scratch disk, as it's temporary data.

Thank you for cleaning that up. It's what I suspected, but wasn't sure. Either way, I'll have the space on Disk 2 since I'll be using a spare 1TB HDD that I already have.

Budget...I want to stay at $3000 or less including the computer.
The Mac Pro refurb is $2300 inc. tax. RAM is going to cost $300 so that's $2600, leaving $400 for the hard drives.

I already have several 1TB disks, of which I will use one and I have one 2TB external I can use. That means I need to buy:

Two SSD drives
One 2TB internal HDD
One 3TB internal HDD
One 3TB external HDD

I'm thinking that will all cost more than $400 but I can go over a couple hundred if needed.

Hey guys, so i've noticed that other computer forums have kind of a marketplace area of their forums. I thought this would be pretty cool if there was one on Macrumors, but I looked around and couldn't find one (if there is one I apologize for making this thread) so I thought i'd suggest it.

while the symbolic link should surely work, it's not really UNIX-like elegant solution to this problem. just think about it: you want "mount that another partition to appear as home folder", so instead of linking anything, you could just have that another partition to be called "/Users" for example. and then, every time you access anything /Users/whatever the system will use the partition that has been mounted to /Users

you need to modify /etc/fstab file (in command line interface, using a text editor, pico for example) that tells the operating system what drives to mount and where.

I was typing on my iPad earlier today and i discovered something very odd. I was trying to type the word 'touch' and for some reason I accidentally pressed an 'n' and a spelling suggestion came up saying 'touchmac'. I typed it in pages and the same thing happened. I typed it into google and nothing came up, and there was obviously no dictionary definition either. Does anybody have any idea what this means? Or is it something really obvious that i'm missing?:confused:

I've noticed that the lines at the Detroit area Apple retailers are very small compared to the rest of the country. I guess Detroiter's have different priorities than the rest of the country. This is a good thing IMO, we still love our idevice.

Which device launches and which store(s) are you referring to? I haven't lined up at Apple stores in other cities, but the lines I've been in around here always seemed comparable to what was being reported for other areas of the country.

By the way, Steve Jobs himself admitted that 75% of websites use Flash and that he was hoping it would get to 50% soon. Soon? What date on the calender is "soon?"

Now on my iPhone, that's not a really big deal. But I'd used a tablet for more and different things than an iPhone.

If you spend over $500 for a computer/tablet device that doesn't show 75% of the web content, I would think you'd be disappointed.


1. If you go to their site on iPad, the video works. So obviously you don't own one.

2. Ever heard of Flash blockers? Many people use it.

3. Please, stick with your floppy drives while the world moves ahead. I am you are picking up the internet taps with your Flash-ad enabled device.

sorry what i meant was I uninstalled repo666. whatever it was and I dont see it on Cydia anymore. I still get at&t signal tho. is this a sign that my phone is factory unlocked. and I read up some reviews and they say that iphones in italy are all factory unlocked. really confused.. doesnt anyone know anything about Italy iphones?

What about ultrasnow? Is it installed under packages? Removing the source is not the same.
If ultrasnow was installed it is NOT factory unlocked.

I've written several iPhone and iPad apps now selling in the App store on an MBA 11. Screen size of the 11 isn't a problem for me.

I started my development work on a Macbook and found it pretty hard going but not impossible. It was frustrating trying to resize and reposition windows all the time.

Eventually I bought a used Mac mini off ebay and use that with a Samsung monitor running at 1920x1080. Much, much easier to work with.

Having said that, your Macbook will be great for you to start getting your hands dirty. Good luck!

I got there around 6 and there were about 100 people outside of the mall in line. I was in the store 30 mins later so it wasn't too bad. And yes, I did get a t-shirt :cool:

They're not targeting iPad. They're targeting Windows, just like the other 99.999993% of malware. It's been made perfectly clear that the malware doesn't go anywhere near the iPad. Mention of iPad is just the coercion/social engineering tactic to infect the Windows machine, just like porn codecs.

iPad is the "porn codec" in this scenario, not the victim computer.

For some reason, when I run the Bootcamp assistant I do not get the option to download Windows support software.

I had an old version of Bootcamp which I used but it hasn't given me everything; for example the keyword function keys (volume up/down etc) are not working.

This is on a Macbook Air 2010 13" ultimate, Mac OS X 10.6.6 (haven't updated to .6.7)

Any suggestions? Any manual option for downloading?
