Epidemic Alert

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Across Asia, people are closely following the global spread of swine flu from Mexico and preparing for the worst after the World Health Organization raised its alert level for the outbreak. Authorities in the region have boosted surveillance at airports and hospitals, stockpiled anti-viral drugs and other supplies to fight any outbreaks.

Face masks and anti-viral drugs like Relenza and Tamiflu flew off the shelves from pharmacies in some cities on Tuesday.
"It's really apparent, people have been buying face masks all day," said Cyrus Chan, the boss of a dispensary in Hong Kong's Wanchai bar district who had sold out his entire stock of 10,000 adult face-masks and only had child sizes left.
"Since SARS, this is the second time there's been such a great demand," Chan added, as a steady stream of customers asking for masks were told there wouldn't be any new stocks of adult masks till later.Still, the mood on the streets appeared largely calm, with the world's most populous region, used to outbreaks of SARS and the H5N1 avian flu, not having yet reported any confirmed cases. In South Korea, health authorities are testing a 51-year-old woman for suspected swine flu after a trip to Mexico.

"There hasn't been much of a reaction yet. I've just had a few calls asking if we have anti-viral drugs or special masks" said a pharmacist in downtown Seoul who asked not to be named.
"I guess South Koreans have grown accustomed to these breakouts over the past 10 years. But I will be bringing in more Tamiflu to the shelves."

PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE
Asia's patchy medical infrastructure, poverty and vast populations in countries like China and India make it particularly vulnerable should the virus take hold and propagate.
China has vowed to disclose any human cases of swine fever promptly, while state-run newspapers on Tuesday urged officials to be open and avoid the kind of cover-ups that brought panic during the SARS epidemic.

The empty streets, schools and shops, worried citizens wearing masks and fleeing travelers now seen in Mexico are familiar to China, where in 2003 the SARS virus shut down much of the country, killing hundreds in the mainland and Hong Kong. In Singapore, stocks of high-end N95 masks were being depleted in stores, with a sales attendant at Changi Airport saying new stocks wouldn't arrive till next week at the earliest.
"We've run out of the masks as people going to Europe or the U.S. are trying to resort to some protection from the flu."

New Zealand meanwhile has quarantined 10 people including a teacher and nine children from an Auckland school and treated them as likely swine flu victims.
While the local community was initially stunned, the overall public mood has reportedly been mostly calm, with the cases appearing to be mild so far. A further 56 people are being monitored. In neighboring Australia, five suspected flu cases are also being monitored. In Vietnam, there appeared to be a degree of confusion toward swine flu which is not in fact linked to pigs alone -- but an assortment of swine, human and avian viruses.

The swine flu outbreak has killed up to 149 people in Mexico and world health experts moved closer to declaring it the first flu pandemic in 40 years. The last such outbreak, a "Hong Kong" flu pandemic first detected in the former British colony in 1968, killed about one million people, while SARS in 2003 killed 299.
"SARS was like a rehearsal for us," said Wong Pak-keung, a taxi driver who recalled those dark days when streets emptied and few of the city's 7 million people left home without a face mask.
"After SARS, people are more prepared and know what to do."

I hope we are prepared for it too!! All of you please take care and take whatever precautions that may be required.

Falling in Love....

During a seminar, a woman asked, "How do I know if I am with the right person?" the author then noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so he said, "It depends. Is that your partner?" In all seriousness, she answered "How do you know?" Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it's weighing on your mind replied the author. Here's the answer.

Every relationship has a cycle...In the beginning; you fall in love with your partner. You anticipate their calls, want their touch, and like their idiosyncrasies. Falling in love wasn't hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn't have to DO anything. That's why it's called "falling" in love.

People in love sometimes say, "I was swept of my feet." Picture the expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something happened TO YOU. Falling in love is a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few months or years of being together, the euphoria of love fades. It's a natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouse's idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts. The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship; you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stages when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage. At this point, you and/or your partner might start asking, "Am I with the right person?" And as you reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when relationships breakdown.

The key to succeeding in a relationship is not finding the right person; it's learning to love the person you found.

People blame their partners for their unhappiness and look outside for fulfillment. Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most common. But sometimes people turn to work, a hobby, a friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances. But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your relationship. It lies within it. I'm not saying that you couldn't fall in love with someone else. You could. And TEMPORARILY you'd feel better. But you'd be in the same situation a few years later. Because (listen carefully to this): The key to succeeding in a relationship is not finding the right person; it's learning to love the person you found.

SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. You have to work on it day in and day out. It takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it demands WISDOM. You have to know WHAT TO DO to make it work. Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things you can do (with or without your partner). Just as there are physical laws of the universe (such as gravity), there are also laws for relationships. If you know and apply these laws, the results are predictable. You can "make" love. Love is therefore a "decision". Not just a feeling.

Remember this always: God determines who walks into your life. It is up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let GO.

Why English is must for a Cricketer!

Most cricketers, who are not comfortable conversing in English, go prepare for some standard questions that are asked to them when commentators chat with them during the awards ceremony. Inzamam was once asked a different question after Pakistan won the match, for which he was not prepared. He always used his standard response to the first question after winning. But this time.....

Tony Greig: So Inzi, that's fantastic, your wife is pregnant for the second time and u must be happy!

Inzamam: Bismillah-e- Rehman-e- Rahim! All credit goes to the boys. Everyone worked hard for it, especially Afridi. It was a tight situation when he went in. Also Bob Woolmer was keeping close watch on progress and giving instructions. It's all about team effort. Insha Allah, we all will work together as a team, put in big efforts and will be able to REPEAT the same result again.

Tony fainted!

Options Needed!!

Despite saying this i have no clue abt wht to do this weekend....as of now the only thing that i hav in mind is to go out and eat at a nice place coz we r yet to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary which just went by. Apart from that i really dunno what to do!?
The most common options are shopping, well i better not talk abt it unless i want to get strangled by my guy!! Yeah he wud do that if i talked of shopping coz i hav been shopping like crazy from the past few days. I have 15 bags and 15 shoes as of now....i know its not much but i hardly have space for keeping them....i think i will soon need an extra cupboard for bags only!!
The next best option is watching movies, dont even talk abt it....its been three weeks since the last movie released in the theatres. Why? Well, all thanks to war going on between the multiplex owners and movie producers on who will get a higher % of the revenue generated per movie.
That leaves me with hardly any option....i mean this is all i hav in mind as of now!! Wht to do India is a boring place so there's a dearth of activities to do on weekends. Had i been abroad i wud like to cycle around in the country side. :( Help me guys, plz give me options....What to do on weekends??

Happy Anniversary!!

This goes out to my parents....coz its their marriage anniversary today. Its amazingly blissful to see them complete 32 wonderful years together!! :) I love u mom & dad.

And this one's a funny thing that i got on mail, check it out:

A married couple in their early 60s was celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in a quiet, romantic little restaurant. Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table. She said, 'For being such an exemplary married couple and for being loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish.'

The wife answered, 'Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband.' The fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - two tickets for the Queen Mary II appeared in her hands. The husband thought for a moment: 'Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me.'

The wife and the fairy were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish. So the fairy waved her magic wand and poof!...the husband became 92 years old.

The moral of this story: Men who are ungrateful should remember fairies are females!!

Every Pic has a Caption!!

A journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step.

Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate

Opportunities multiply when they are seized

Size does matter!

The only way to have a friend is to be one

The balancing act

It is more blessed to give than to recieve

Do u believe in the saying that a picture speaks a thousand words? I do, and that's why i have put up these pics with one liners which are my interpretation of the pics. If there is anything else that u get in mind on seeing these pics do write them in your comments.

Believe it or Not

This is a small story which has a wonderful message in it:

Once a boy went to a shop with his mother. The shop keeper looked at the small cute child and showed him a bottle of sweets and said 'Dear Child u can take the sweets...But the child didn't take any. The shop keeper was surprised, such a small child he is and why is he not taking the sweets from the bottle. Again he said take the sweets, now even the mother heard that and said, take the sweets dear..but still he didn't take it...The shopkeeper seeing the child not taking the sweets... he himself took the sweets and gave it to the child. The child was happy to get two hand full of sweets.

While returning home the Mother asked the child...Why didn't you take the sweets, when the shop keeper told you to take? Can you guess the response:
The child replied: Mom! my hands are very small and if i take the sweets i can only take few of them.. but now you see when uncle gave them to me with his big hands....how many more sweets i got!

Moral:
When we take we may get little, but when God gives he gives us much beyond our expectations....more than what we can hold!!

Easter Weekend: Goa

Just back from the Goa trip and it still feels like i am still living in a dream.....i so don't wanna believe that i am back in Mumbai!! :( :( Goa was simply awesome, amazing and rocking. :) But the only thing missing was a camera, so i had to make do with my Nokia 7610 Supernova 3.2 MP camera which wasn't bad at all! Jus see the pics below and u'll know what am i talking about:

Water Sports Ahoy!

Waves Splash at Calangute

Awesome Twosome

Poolside Fun

We didn't even realise how time jus flew past us. First day of the trip we went to Candolim Beach which was at stone's throw distance from our hotel. It's a nice quiet beach with not too many ppl coz its not as popular as Calangute, Baga or Anjuna. The day ended with us having dinner at one of the beach shacks.
Day 2 was more of fun coz we started the day with water sports at Calangute Beach. We tried para sailing, bumper side, banana boat ride & the water scooter. :) The best i would say was definitely para sailing and the one that came closest to para sailing was the bumper ride.

And then came the day 3 which again passed off at Morjim Beach. I also did some rasta shopping which includes some junk jewellery, a pair of sun glasses and a nice classy hot black leather knit hand bag. :) I am back to Mumbai with a tan so bad that, i am sure it's gonna take me weeks to get rid of it!

Mixed Emotions

For people who have been wondering where was i from the past 2 days, here's the reason:
Monday was a hectic day for me at work coz there was a lot to do (blame it on the long weekend which lead to an overload on Monday). And guess what do i see on returning home? My internet's not working *rolling eyes*! It took the whole of yesterday and 10 calls from me for those morons to set it right!

Anyways, lets not talk about stupid things, i have been chilling at home from yesterday coz Monday was the last working day for me. No, no i am not leaving my job, it's just that i am on leave from 7th to 14th April. :) Come Friday and i am off to Goa for 3 days of absolute bliss!! Yep Goa it is for me......i have been wanting to go there from such a longtime! Everything's booked right from the flight tickets to the hotel, all i need to do is just wait for Friday to arrive. Yippeee....i m just so excited.

In the meanwhile my parents are busy roaming the streets of London and Scotland! :( Makes me so irritated.....i could have been there with them, but it was not meant to be! All thanks to the British High Commission who rejected my Visa on the premise that they aren't sure that i intend to leave the UK after the trip. Yeah right!! As if i have no business but to go and settle down in UK, leaving my cushy job, my family and bf here.......I just feel they r paranoid about letting ppl into their country! If that's the case then why talk about tourism, seal your borders and don't allow anybody in. Anyways, i don't plan to visit UK anytime soon, even if i get a chance. I rather go to Australia, and besides i can meet Keshi too! ;) What say babe!?
